Baked Potatoes in Oven

  • Author: Leslie Bennett
  • Total Time: 70 minutes
  • Yield: 4–6 servings

Description

Baked potatoes in oven are a simple yet satisfying dish featuring perfectly baked potatoes with crispy skins and fluffy interiors, ideal for pairing with toppings like butter, sour cream, or cheese. Perfect for weeknight dinners, casual gatherings, or as a healthy homemade meal. Easily paired with proteins like grilled chicken, steak, or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

For the Potatoes:

– 4–6 large russet potatoes, scrubbed clean (substitute sweet potatoes if needed)

– 2 tbsp olive oil (substitute vegetable oil or melted butter if needed)

– 1 tsp kosher salt (adjust to taste; substitute low-sodium options if needed)

– ½ tsp black pepper

Optional Toppings:

– Butter

– Sour cream (substitute Greek yogurt for a lighter option)

– Shredded cheddar cheese

– Chives, chopped

– Bacon bits

– Fresh herbs (e.g., parsley or cilantro)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Scrub the potatoes clean under running water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  3. Rub each potato with olive oil, then sprinkle generously with kosher salt and black pepper.
  4. Use a fork to poke holes all over the potatoes to allow steam to escape during baking.
  5. Place the potatoes directly on the middle rack of the oven or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skins are crispy and the insides are tender when pierced with a fork.
  7. Slice open the baked potatoes and fluff the insides with a fork. Add your favorite toppings like butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, or chives.

Notes

– Avoid wrapping potatoes in foil unless you prefer softer skins. Substitute plant-based ingredients for vegan diets.

– Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze portions for longer storage; thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating. Avoid microwaving for too long to preserve texture.
