Description

Balsamic Caprese grilled steak blends tender, juicy steak with fresh Caprese flavors—tomato, mozzarella, basil and a sweet-tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect for grilling season, this dish is a vibrant, elegant option for dinner parties, summer meals, or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (or ribeye/sirloin), about 1–1.5 inches thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves, to taste
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar (for homemade glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons honey (for homemade glaze)

Optional: arugula, roasted red peppers, Parmesan shavings

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: Rub steak with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Make the Balsamic Glaze (if homemade): In a small saucepan, simmer balsamic vinegar and honey over medium heat until reduced and thickened. Set aside.
  3. Grill the Steak: Preheat grill or pan over medium-high heat. Grill steak for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, flipping once.
  4. Rest and Slice: Remove from heat and let the steak rest for 5–10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  5. Prepare Caprese Topping: Arrange tomato and mozzarella slices with basil leaves.
  6. Assemble: Place sliced steak on a platter, top with Caprese ingredients, and drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  7. Garnish: Add extra basil or sea salt for finishing.

Notes

  • Use well-marbled cuts like ribeye or sirloin for maximum flavor.
  • Let the steak rest after grilling to retain its juices.
  • Balance glaze sweetness with a splash of lemon juice if needed.
  • Burrata or feta can substitute for mozzarella.
  • Add pesto, caramelized onions, or sun-dried tomatoes for variations.
  • For vegetarian option, substitute steak with grilled portobello mushrooms.
