Description

BBQ Jackfruit Sandwiches feature tender, shredded jackfruit simmered in smoky BBQ sauce and served on soft buns. With a meaty texture and bold, tangy flavor, they’re the perfect plant-based alternative to pulled pork sandwiches. Ready in under 30 minutes, these sandwiches are ideal for casual meals, game-day snacks, or crowd-pleasing gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans young green jackfruit (in brine or water, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 46 sandwich buns

Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 12 drops liquid smoke
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Vegan cheese or creamy coleslaw (for topping)
  • Gluten-free buns (if needed)

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse jackfruit; pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
  3. Add jackfruit and shred with a fork or spatula into small pieces.
  4. Stir in BBQ sauce and any optional spices.
  5. Simmer 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until jackfruit absorbs sauce and becomes tender.
  6. Toast buns lightly.
  7. Assemble sandwiches with BBQ jackfruit mixture. Top with coleslaw or pickles if desired.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use young green jackfruit, not ripe, for the best meaty texture.
  • Simmer longer for deeper flavor and softer jackfruit.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat with a splash of BBQ sauce to keep moist.
  • For a low-carb option, serve in lettuce wraps instead of buns.
