  • Author: Leslie Bennett
  • Total Time: 4 hours (including chilling time)
  • Yield: 8–10 servings

Description

Brownie trifle is a decadent dessert featuring layers of rich brownies, creamy pudding, whipped topping, and crunchy toffee bits. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or as a homemade treat. Easily made gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan.

Ingredients

For the Brownies:

– 2 boxes (18 oz. each) Ghirardelli brownie mix (substitute gluten-free mix if needed)

– Eggs, water, and vegetable oil (as per package directions)

For the Pudding Layer:

– 1 box (3.9 oz.) instant chocolate pudding mix

– ⅔ cup whole milk (substitute plant-based milk for vegan diets)

– 1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk (substitute dairy-free version if needed)

For Assembly:

– 2 containers (8 oz. each) frozen whipped topping (Cool Whip, thawed; substitute homemade whipped cream if preferred)

– 1 bag (8 oz.) Heath Milk Chocolate English Toffee Bits (substitute crushed cookies, sprinkles, or chopped nuts for variety)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a 9″x13″ baking pan with foil, leaving overhang on the short sides. Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare brownie mixes according to package directions and pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 45 minutes, then cool completely. Cut into 1-inch squares.
  3. In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, whole milk, and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping until no streaks remain.
  4. In a trifle bowl or large glass bowl, layer half of the brownie squares on the bottom. Add half of the pudding mixture, followed by ⅓ of the toffee bits. Top with half of the remaining whipped topping.
  5. Repeat layers. Finish with the remaining ⅓ of toffee bits.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for 3–4 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

– Use high-quality ingredients: This ensures maximum richness and flavor. Substitute plant-based ingredients for vegan diets.

– Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze portions for longer storage; thaw in the fridge before serving. Avoid microwaving if possible.

– Customizations: Swap toffee bits with crushed cookies, sprinkles, or chopped nuts. Add fresh fruit like strawberries or bananas for added complexity.
