Description

Chocolate chip cookie bars are a thick, gooey dessert combining the classic flavors of chocolate chip cookies in bar form for easy serving and sharing. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or as a homemade treat. Easily made gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan.


Ingredients

For the Bars:

– 1½ cups unsalted butter, softened (substitute plant-based butter for vegan diets)

– 1½ cups light brown sugar, packed

– ¾ cup granulated sugar

– 2 large eggs (substitute flax eggs for vegan diets)

– 2 egg yolks (substitute additional flax eggs for vegan diets)

– 2 tbsp vanilla extract

– 3¾ cups all-purpose flour (substitute gluten-free flour if needed)

– 1½ tsp salt

– 1 tsp baking soda

– 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (substitute dairy-free chips for vegan diets)

For Garnish:

– Maldon flakey sea salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Combine softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl. Beat on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until well combined.
  3. Add eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract. Continue beating until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until dough starts to form.
  5. Before the dough thickens, fold in chocolate chips (reserve a small handful for sprinkling on top).
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with flakey sea salt. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

– Use high-quality chocolate chips for maximum flavor. Substitute plant-based ingredients for vegan diets.

– Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to 1 week. Freeze slices for longer storage; thaw overnight in the fridge before serving. Avoid microwaving if possible.
