Description

Chocolate covered strawberries are elegant, easy-to-make treats featuring fresh strawberries dipped in smooth melted chocolate perfect for gifting, Valentine’s Day, weddings, or last-minute desserts. Ready in 20 minutes and naturally gluten-free.

Ingredients

– 2 lbs (907g) fresh strawberries, medium-large, firm, with stems attached

– 10 oz (285g) high-quality chocolate (bittersweet, semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate chips or chopped bar)

Optional Add-Ons:

– Crushed nuts (e.g., almonds, pistachios)

– Shredded coconut

– Sprinkles

– Freeze-dried fruit powder

– Drizzle: melted white or contrasting chocolate

Instructions

  1. Wash strawberries gently in cold water. Pat thoroughly dry with paper towels or let air-dry completely moisture prevents chocolate from sticking.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper.
  3. Melt chocolate using one of two methods:

– Double boiler: Simmer 1–2 inches of water in a saucepan. Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl over (not touching) water. Stir constantly until smooth.

– Microwave: Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until almost melted. Let residual heat finish melting. Do not overheat.

  1. Hold a strawberry by the stem and dip into melted chocolate, swirling to coat. Lift and twist gently to let excess drip off.
  2. (Optional) Immediately roll in toppings like nuts or coconut while chocolate is wet.
  3. Place on prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining strawberries.
  4. (Optional) Drizzle with melted white or contrasting chocolate using a fork.
  5. Chill in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes, or until chocolate is firm.
  6. Serve immediately or store as directed.

Notes

– Dry strawberries completely: this is essential for chocolate adhesion.

– Use high-quality chocolate like Ghirardelli, Callebaut, or Lindt for best flavor and texture.

– Candy melts can be used for easier handling, but lack depth of real chocolate.

– Do not use frozen strawberries: they release too much water when thawed.

– Best served the same day for optimal texture; store up to 2–3 days in the fridge if needed.

– Vegan option: Use dairy-free chocolate and add 1 tsp coconut oil for smoother melting.

– Gluten-free: Naturally GF, just verify toppings (most are safe).
