Ingredients
Scale
- 4 thick slices of bologna (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- 4 slices of bread (white, rye, or artisanal)
- 2 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or preferred variety)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or mustard (or preferred condiment)
- Optional toppings: sliced tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, or caramelized onions
Instructions
- Prepare the bologna: Trim the edges of each bologna slice to prevent curling. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Heat the skillet: Place a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add butter or oil.
- Fry the bologna: Cook each slice of bologna for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy and golden.
- Toast the bread: While the bologna cooks, lightly toast the bread slices.
- Assemble the sandwich:
- Spread mayonnaise or mustard on one side of the toasted bread.
- Place a slice of fried bologna on the bread.
- Add cheese, pickles, or additional toppings as desired.
- Top with the second slice of bread.
- Serve: Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use artisanal bread like brioche or ciabatta for an elevated touch.
- For extra crunch, try adding crispy onion strings or arugula.
- Ensure your skillet is hot to achieve a perfect crispy texture on the bologna.
