Description

Coffee Custard Pie is a creamy, coffee-infused dessert with a silky custard filling baked in a buttery pie crust, topped with whipped cream and garnished with coffee beans. Rich, elegant, and easy to make, it’s perfect for coffee lovers, holiday gatherings, or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 23 tablespoons ice water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Coffee Custard Filling:

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For the Whipped Cream Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Optional Garnishes:

  • Coffee beans
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the crust: In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Add egg yolk and ice water gradually; form dough.
  3. Roll out dough and fit into a 9-inch pie pan. Prick the base, line with parchment and pie weights. Blind bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden. Cool completely.
  4. Prepare the custard: Whisk eggs, yolks, and sugar until pale. Add cornstarch and mix smooth. Slowly whisk in cooled coffee.
  5. In a saucepan, heat milk and cream until steaming (not boiling). Gradually whisk into the egg mixture to temper.
  6. Return to the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, whisking constantly until thick and coats the back of a spoon.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and salt, then strain into a clean bowl.
  8. Pour custard into cooled crust. Cover with plastic wrap touching the surface. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Whip cream with powdered sugar to soft peaks. Spread or pipe over chilled pie.
  10. Garnish with coffee beans, chocolate shavings, or cocoa powder before serving.
