For the Cube Steak:

  • 4 cube steaks (about 1.52 pounds)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

For the Gravy:

  • 1 cup beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 packet (1 oz) onion soup mix (Lipton Onion Soup Mix works great!)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 medium onion, sliced

Optional Additions:

  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Season the Cube Steak:
    • Sprinkle salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder on both sides of the cube steaks.
  2. Layer Ingredients in the Crock Pot:
    • Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
    • Add the cube steaks, slightly overlapping if needed.
    • Sprinkle the onion soup mix over the steaks.
  3. Prepare the Gravy Mixture:
    • In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, and Worcestershire sauce.
    • Pour this mixture over the cube steaks.
  4. Slow Cook:
    • Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until the meat is fork-tender.
  5. Thicken the Gravy (Optional):
    • If a thicker gravy is desired, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir it into the crock pot.
    • Let it cook for an additional 20-30 minutes until thickened.
  6. Serve & Enjoy:
    • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, and enjoy!
