Description

This Easy Homemade Stromboli recipe is a delicious Italian-American classic, featuring pizza dough rolled with Italian meats, cheeses, and vegetables. Perfect for family dinners or entertaining, it’s customizable, crowd-pleasing, and irresistibly flavorful

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

For the Fillings

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 lb sliced Italian meats (e.g., pepperoni, Genoa salami, Virginia ham)

For the Egg Wash

1 egg, beaten

Instructions

1.      Prepare the Dough

    • Let the pizza dough come to room temperature for easier handling.
    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

2.      Assemble the Stromboli

    • Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
    • Spread pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
    • Layer shredded cheese and sliced meats evenly across the dough.

3.      Roll and Seal

    • Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a spiral.
    • Pinch the seam to seal, and place the stromboli seam-side down on a greased baking sheet.
    • Make shallow cuts on top to release steam during baking.

4.      Bake the Stromboli

    • Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden crust.
    • Bake in the oven’s lower half for 20–25 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

5.      Rest and Serve

    • Let the stromboli rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
    • Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Customize fillings with your favorite ingredients (e.g., sautéed vegetables, barbecue chicken, or pineapple).
  • To avoid a soggy crust, use low-moisture ingredients and bake on a greased wire rack if possible.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best results.
