For the Cake:
- 225 g unsalted butter, softened
- 225 g caster sugar
- 4 medium eggs
- 225 g self-raising flour
- 150 g Nutella
For the Topping:
- 100 g Nutella (for spreading)
- 75 g toasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped
Optional Add-ins:
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 50 g chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 160°C fan / 180°C / Gas Mark 4. Grease and line a cake tin.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and caster sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gently fold in the self-raising flour until fully combined.
- Remove one-third of the batter to a separate bowl and stir in 150 g Nutella until smooth.
- Spread two-thirds of the plain batter into the prepared tin. Add spoonfuls of Nutella batter on top and swirl gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 45–60 minutes, checking for doneness at 45 minutes. The cake is ready when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake bakes, toast hazelnuts until golden.
- Once cooled, spread 100 g Nutella over the top of the cake and sprinkle with toasted hazelnuts.
