Description

A fusion of Philly cheesesteak and sloppy joes, this quick and budget-friendly recipe features tender ground beef, melted cheese, and zesty seasonings on soft buns. Perfect for busy weeknights, parties, or family meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef (85-90% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper (green or red), diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ cup tomato sauce

Cheese Blend

  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup American cheese, shredded

Optional Additions

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sautéed (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Serving

  • 4 soft buns or rolls

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until softened and fragrant.
  3. Stir in garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes to combine flavors.
  4. Pour in beef broth and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Allow the mixture to thicken, about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Mix in shredded provolone and American cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and creamy.
  6. Toast buns if desired, then spoon the beef mixture onto the buns.
  7. Optional: Broil assembled sandwiches for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese further. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicy twist, add cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for dietary preferences.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
