Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef (85-90% lean)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper (green or red), diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup beef broth
- ½ cup tomato sauce
Cheese Blend
- 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
- ½ cup American cheese, shredded
Optional Additions
- 1 cup mushrooms, sautéed (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Serving
- 4 soft buns or rolls
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in garlic and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes to combine flavors.
- Pour in beef broth and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Allow the mixture to thicken, about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Mix in shredded provolone and American cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and creamy.
- Toast buns if desired, then spoon the beef mixture onto the buns.
- Optional: Broil assembled sandwiches for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese further. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For a spicy twist, add cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
- Swap ground beef for ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for dietary preferences.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
