Ingredients
For the Filling:
– 1 lb (454g) pork mince (or ground beef/chicken)
– 1 packet (about 1 oz) French onion soup mix (or homemade blend: 2 tbsp dried onion flakes + 1 tsp onion powder + ½ tsp garlic powder + salt)
– 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
– 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tsp Dijon mustard
– Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
For the Pastry & Finish:
– 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed if frozen; use gluten-free if needed)
– 1 large egg
– 1 tbsp milk
Optional Add-Ins:
– ½ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
– 1 tsp fresh thyme, rosemary, or parsley
– Pinch of chili flakes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine pork mince, French onion soup mix, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and black pepper. Mix until evenly blended.
- Roll out puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet in half lengthwise to make 4 long rectangles.
- Place a log of filling along one long edge of each pastry strip.
- Roll pastry over filling, sealing the seam with a dab of water or egg wash.
- In a small bowl, whisk egg and milk to make an egg wash.
- Place rolls seam-side down on the baking tray. Brush tops generously with egg wash.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let rest 3–5 minutes before slicing into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces or as part of a charcuterie board.
