Description
Garlic steak tortellini is a tender pasta dish featuring cheesy tortellini paired with seared steak in a rich, creamy garlic sauce. Perfect for family dinners, date nights, or as a homemade treat. Easily made gluten-free, low-carb, or vegan.
Ingredients
For the Dish:
– 20 oz cheese tortellini (fresh or refrigerated; substitute gluten-free tortellini or zucchini noodles for dietary needs)
– 1 lb steak (sirloin or ribeye; substitute chicken, shrimp, or plant-based alternatives if needed)
– Salt and black pepper (to taste)
– 1 tsp garlic powder
– 1 tsp smoked paprika
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 4 tbsp butter
– 5 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 cup heavy cream (substitute half-and-half or coconut cream for low-carb options)
– ¾ cup whole milk (substitute almond milk for low-carb diets)
– 1¼ cups parmesan cheese, shredded or freshly grated
For Garnish (Optional):
– Chopped parsley
– Red pepper flakes
– Cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add cheese tortellini and cook according to package instructions (about 3–5 minutes) until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season steak with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Sear for 3–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked to desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add heavy cream and whole milk, stirring to combine. Let simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Gradually whisk in parmesan cheese, stirring until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
- Return seared steak and cooked tortellini to the skillet. Toss to combine and heat through for about 2 minutes.
- Sprinkle with parsley, red pepper flakes, and cracked black pepper if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
– Use fresh tortellini: Fresh or refrigerated tortellini provides superior texture and flavor compared to frozen.
– Prevent overcrowding: Avoid overcrowding the skillet when searing the steak to ensure even browning. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing to retain juiciness.
– Storage: Store leftover tortellini in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze portions for longer storage; thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently in the skillet on low heat. Avoid microwaving if possible.
– Customizations: Add spinach, mushrooms, or roasted red peppers for variety. Sprinkle toasted breadcrumbs or drizzle hot sauce on top for extra flair.
