Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese (Emmental or Gruyère recommended)
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Chicken: Pat dry the chicken breasts and carefully slice a pocket into each without cutting through the other side.
  3. Stuff: Layer 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese inside each chicken breast. Do not overfill.
  4. Secure: Use toothpicks or kitchen twine to keep the filling in place.
  5. Season: Brush the chicken with olive oil or melted butter. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika (if using).
  6. Bake: Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, sear the stuffed chicken in a pan for 2 minutes per side before baking.
  • Swap Swiss cheese for provolone or mozzarella for a different flavor.
  • Can also be grilled or cooked in a slow cooker (4-6 hours on low).
