  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf

Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • All-purpose flour: 1 1/2 cups
  • Granulated sugar: 1 cup
  • Eggs: 2 large
  • Unsalted butter (softened): 1/4 cup
  • Canola oil: 1/4 cup
  • Buttermilk: 1/2 cup (or 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 tsp vinegar)
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Molasses: 1/2 teaspoon

For the Coating:

  • Unsalted butter (melted): 1/3 cup
  • Granulated sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Brown sugar: 1/4 cup
  • Ground cinnamon: 1/3 cup

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the Batter:
    • Cream together softened butter, canola oil, and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
    • Alternately add the flour, baking powder, salt, and buttermilk in small batches, mixing until smooth.
  3. Create the Swirl:
    • Reserve 1/3 of the batter. Mix it with cinnamon and molasses.
    • Layer the plain batter and cinnamon batter alternately in the loaf pan. Use a knife to swirl for a marbled effect.
  4. Bake: Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar:
    • Dip the cooled bread in melted butter.
    • Combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Roll the butter-coated bread in this mixture until fully covered.
