Perfect for tea lovers, celebrations, or cozy nights in, these brownies are easy to make, customizable for various diets, and guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownie Base:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 oz white chocolate, chopped
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 2 tablespoons culinary-grade matcha powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine salt

Optional Add-Ins:

  • ½ cup white chocolate chips

Dietary Substitutions:

  • Use plant-based butter and dairy-free white chocolate for dairy-free
  • Use certified gluten-free flour for gluten-free
  • Substitute flax eggs for eggs to make vegan

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: to 350°F (177°C). Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy lifting.
  2. Melt butter and chocolate: In a heat-safe bowl, melt butter and chopped white chocolate together (microwave in short bursts or use a double boiler). Stir until smooth and let cool for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add sugar and eggs: Whisk sugar into the melted mixture until combined. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, matcha powder, and salt to remove lumps.
  5. Combine: Fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined, do not overmix. If using, fold in white chocolate chips.
  6. Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until edges are set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and serve: Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Lift out using parchment overhang, slice into 16 squares, and serve.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality culinary-grade matcha for vibrant color and authentic flavor.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter for the best fudgy texture.
  • Chill before slicing for clean edges.
  • Add-ins like chopped nuts, cranberries, or dark chocolate drizzle give variety.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days, or refrigerate for 5 days.
  • For longer storage, freeze up to 2 months and thaw before serving.
