Description

This easy pizza dough recipe creates a crispy, chewy crust using simple ingredients like flour, olive oil, and yeast. Perfect for pizza nights, it’s highly customizable, beginner-friendly, and can be made gluten-free or plant-based.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • (Optional add-ins: garlic powder, dried Italian herbs, whole wheat flour)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture and olive oil to dry ingredients; stir to form a shaggy dough.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough, divide into portions, and shape into balls.
  7. Roll out dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  8. Top and bake in a preheated 500°F (260°C) oven using a pizza stone or baking sheet.

Notes

  • For gluten-free: Use certified gluten-free flour and xanthan gum.
  • For whole wheat: Replace half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Add dried herbs or garlic powder to the dough for flavor.
  • Freeze extra dough balls for up to 3 months; thaw and allow to rise before using.
