Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless sirloin steak
- 2 cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Optional: diced tomatoes, jalapeños, fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Cook 2 cups of jasmine or basmati rice according to package directions. Set aside.
- Season the steak with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder.
- Sear the steak in a hot skillet over medium-high heat, 4–5 minutes per side or until cooked to desired doneness. Let rest before slicing thinly.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
- Add milk and shredded cheese. Stir continuously over low heat until smooth and creamy.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, sliced steak, and queso sauce. Toss gently to coat.
- Garnish with optional toppings like diced tomatoes, jalapeños, or fresh cilantro. Serve warm.
Notes
For a spicier dish, add jalapeños or hot sauce. To make it gluten-free, ensure all ingredients are certified gluten-free. Substitute cheddar with pepper jack or queso fresco for a twist. Use cauliflower rice for a low-carb version or swap steak with tofu or grilled chicken.
