Description

Steak & queso rice is a rich, comforting dish made with juicy steak, creamy queso sauce, and fluffy rice. Perfect for family dinners, game nights, or meal prep, it’s customizable for various diets and packed with bold, savory flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless sirloin steak
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Optional: diced tomatoes, jalapeños, fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Cook 2 cups of jasmine or basmati rice according to package directions. Set aside.
  2. Season the steak with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder.
  3. Sear the steak in a hot skillet over medium-high heat, 4–5 minutes per side or until cooked to desired doneness. Let rest before slicing thinly.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
  5. Add milk and shredded cheese. Stir continuously over low heat until smooth and creamy.
  6. In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, sliced steak, and queso sauce. Toss gently to coat.
  7. Garnish with optional toppings like diced tomatoes, jalapeños, or fresh cilantro. Serve warm.

Notes

For a spicier dish, add jalapeños or hot sauce. To make it gluten-free, ensure all ingredients are certified gluten-free. Substitute cheddar with pepper jack or queso fresco for a twist. Use cauliflower rice for a low-carb version or swap steak with tofu or grilled chicken.
