Description
Sauteed mushrooms with garlic are a savory, aromatic side featuring tender mushrooms sautéed with garlic, butter, olive oil, and optional white wine or thyme. Easily paired with grilled proteins, pasta, or rice for added variety.
Ingredients
For the Dish:
– 1 pound brown mushrooms (substitute with white, cremini, or portobello mushrooms)
– 1 tbsp soy sauce (substitute tamari for gluten-free diets or coconut aminos for low-sodium diets)
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 2 tbsp butter (substitute plant-based butter for vegan diets)
– ¼ cup white wine (optional; substitute chicken or vegetable broth for variety)
– Fresh thyme sprig (or dried thyme, optional)
– 2 cloves minced garlic
– Chopped fresh chives (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Clean mushrooms by gently wiping with a paper towel or using a mushroom brush. Slice into thick slices (about ½ inch).
- Add butter and olive oil to a pan and heat over medium-high heat.
- Quickly toss the mushrooms with soy sauce (do not do this ahead of time to avoid removing too much moisture).
- Add the mushrooms to the pan and toss with the olive oil mixture. Allow to cook for about 4–5 minutes without disturbing to brown on one side.
- Add white wine (if using) and allow it to evaporate.
- Add minced garlic and thyme (if using). Continue cooking for an additional 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally until cooked.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped fresh chives if desired.
Notes
– Use fresh, high-quality mushrooms for maximum flavor. Substitute plant-based ingredients for vegan diets.
– Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–5 days. Freeze portions in freezer-safe containers for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
