Description

Soft fried dough balls rolled in cinnamon sugar and filled with a creamy vanilla white chocolate filling.

Ingredients

Scale

For the dough

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

For frying

  • vegetable oil, about 2 inches deep in a medium pot

For the coating

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the filling

  • 1 box (3.4 ounces) instant vanilla pudding mix, prepared with cold milk as the package directs
  • 4 ounces white chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Mix 2/3 cup sugar and the cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk the milk, yogurt, 1/4 cup sugar and melted butter. Stir in the dry ingredients just until combined.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F in a medium pot, checking with a thermometer.
  5. Roll the dough into balls, about 1 1/2 tablespoons each. Fry in small batches until golden brown, turning halfway through. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Roll the warm poppers in the cinnamon sugar.
  7. Stir the prepared pudding into the melted white chocolate and spoon it into a pastry bag fitted with a small filling tip.
  8. Poke the tip halfway into each popper and squeeze in the filling. Refrigerate any poppers that are not eaten right away.
